Young Man Dies at Islamabad Rehab Centre, Family Alleges Abuse

Complaint filed at Shahzad Town Police Station; rehab centre staff and owner reportedly unavailable

ISLAMABAD: A young man admitted to a rehabilitation centre in Islamabad’s Tarlai area has died under disputed circumstances, with his father alleging in a police complaint that his son was subjected to physical abuse while undergoing treatment.

According to the application submitted at Shahzad Town Police Station, the victim was admitted to the rehabilitation facility in June 2026. The complainant alleged that family members were not allowed to meet him for nearly a month.

The father further stated that on July 9, the rehabilitation centre informed the family that the patient had contracted dengue fever. However, upon reaching the facility, they were allegedly informed that the young man had already died.

The complaint claims that the deceased’s body bore visible marks of alleged torture. The father has requested police to register a criminal case, conduct a thorough investigation, and determine the exact cause of death.

The application also alleges that after the incident, the rehabilitation centre’s staff vacated the premises, while the centre’s owner, identified in the complaint as Dr. Hamza, could not be contacted.

Police have received the complaint and are expected to investigate the allegations in accordance with the law.
