Islamabad Police Disbands Dolphin Squad, Launches Capital Patrols Unit

The new unit will be equipped with 40 electric vehicles, while 100 officers, including Sub-Inspectors, ASIs, and Head Constables have been posted as part of the restructuring. Former Dolphin Squad personnel will also become part of the new force.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police has officially abolished its Dolphin Squad and replaced it with a newly established Capital Patrols Unit (CPU) as part of a major restructuring aimed at strengthening patrolling and emergency response across the federal capital.

According to police sources, the newly formed unit will initially be equipped with 40 electric vehicles to enhance mobility and promote environmentally friendly policing.

As part of the reorganisation, Islamabad Police has carried out large-scale transfers and postings. A total of 32 Sub-Inspectors, 36 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), and 32 Head Constables have been assigned to the Capital Patrols Unit.

Officials said that personnel previously serving in the Dolphin Squad will also continue their duties within the newly established unit, ensuring operational continuity while adopting the new policing model.

The restructuring is expected to improve routine patrolling, emergency response, and police visibility across Islamabad. Further operational details are likely to be announced by Islamabad Police in due course.
