NCCIA Registers FIR Against Noreen Niazi for Alleged Anti-State Statements

Agency says the case has been registered under PECA and Pakistan Penal Code over a podcast interview and related social media content; investigation is underway.

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Noreen Niazi, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, over alleged anti-state statements made during a podcast interview and shared on social media.

According to the FIR, the agency alleges that Noreen Niazi made false and baseless allegations against the state and its institutions, including the armed forces, with the intent to undermine public confidence and create panic.

The FIR further claims that she used social media platforms to circulate allegedly false, provocative, insulting and threatening content, and engaged in organised propaganda against state and security institutions.

FIR Registered Under PECA and PPC

The case has been registered under:

  • Sections 20 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016.
  • Sections 505 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Investigators state that the disputed podcast interview was widely shared on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, significantly increasing its reach.

Investigation Underway

According to the FIR, Noreen Niazi allegedly attempted to discredit the achievements of Pakistan’s armed forces during Marka-e-Haq and spread a narrative intended to create fear, mistrust and hostility towards state institutions.

The NCCIA also stated that Noreen Niazi had been served multiple notices directing her to appear before investigators and record her statement. The agency said that, based on preliminary evidence, a prima facie case had been established, while the possible involvement of other individuals would be examined during the investigation.

At the time of publication, no response from Noreen Niazi or Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding the FIR had been issued.
