Group Captain Murder Suspect Breaks Down in Court, Judge Says: “Your Tears Won’t Bring Him Back”

ISLAMABAD: The suspect arrested in the murder case of Group Captain Shaheed Asim Tariq broke down in tears during his appearance before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday, where the judge delivered a stern rebuke, telling him, “Your tears won’t bring him back.”
The case was heard by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, who handed the suspect over to police on seven-day physical remand for further investigation. Police had sought a 20-day physical remand, but the court approved seven days.
Prosecution Cites Eyewitness Identification
During the proceedings, Prosecutor Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani informed the court that the suspect had been positively identified by eyewitnesses Kamran and Waseem. He said the identification parade had been completed at Adiala Jail, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
Judge Rebukes Emotional Suspect
As the accused appeared emotional in the courtroom, Judge Zulqarnain addressed him directly, saying:
“What is the benefit of crying now? You have caused a great loss to the country and destroyed an innocent family. You have no idea what a valuable national asset has been lost. Will your tears bring him back?”
The remarks came as the court considered the prosecution’s request for additional custody to continue the investigation into the high-profile killing.
Court Orders Seven-Day Police Custody
Following arguments from both sides, the court remanded the suspect into police custody for seven days and directed investigators to continue the probe in accordance with the law before presenting the accused again upon completion of the remand period.
