Police Team Attacked During Recovery Operation in Islamabad

Police say a detained suspect was injured after his accomplices allegedly opened fire on a police team during a recovery operation in Shahzad Town.

ISLAMABAD: A detained suspect was injured after his alleged accomplices opened fire on an Islamabad Police team during a recovery operation in the Shahzad Town area, according to a police spokesperson.
Police said the suspect, identified as Khaliq Akhtar, was being taken back after a recovery based on his disclosure when armed accomplices, who were allegedly lying in wait, opened indiscriminate fire on the police team.
According to the spokesperson, Khaliq Akhtar was struck by bullets allegedly fired by his own accomplices, while the police personnel remained unharmed due to bulletproof jackets and other protective measures.
The injured suspect was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police said Khaliq Akhtar had a previous criminal record and was wanted in multiple cases, including attempted murder, drug trafficking, and other serious offences. Officers also recovered an illegal pistol with ammunition from his possession.
Islamabad Police said search operations are underway to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
