Rs90 Crore Cheque Fraud Under Scanner in Islamabad: Police Sources
Police sources claim 762 cheque dishonour cases have been registered across 27 police stations this year, with over 300 additional inquiries still under investigation.
ISLAMABAD: Financial fraud involving dishonoured cheques has emerged as a growing concern in the federal capital, with the total value of disputed cheques exceeding Rs90 crore, according to police sources.
Sources told Islamabad Tribune that 762 First Information Reports (FIRs) related to cheque dishonour have been registered so far this year across 27 police stations in Islamabad.
Police Station-Wise Breakdown
Among the police stations:
- Shalimar recorded the highest number of cases with 95 FIRs.
- Ramna followed with 88 FIRs.
- Kohsar registered 75 FIRs.
- Lohi Bher recorded 64 FIRs.
- I-9 registered 59 FIRs.
- The remaining cases were registered in other police stations across the capital.
More Than 300 Inquiries Under Investigation
Police sources further revealed that more than 300 inquiries related to cheque dishonour complaints are also under investigation and are being processed in accordance with legal procedures.
Officials familiar with the matter said the figures indicate a noticeable increase in financial disputes involving bounced cheques, with the cumulative value of the dishonoured instruments surpassing Rs90 crore. They added that investigations are continuing and legal action is being pursued in accordance with applicable laws.
At the time of filing this report, Islamabad Police had not issued any official consolidated statement regarding the statistics.
