Islamabad Reports Just Three Dengue Cases in 2026

Strict enforcement drives 170 arrests, seals 35 premises, and imposes over Rs2.1 million in fines as the District Administration intensifies action against dengue breeding sites.

ISLAMABAD: Only three dengue cases were reported in the federal capital between January 1 and August 6, 2026, according to figures presented to the Islamabad district administration during a high-level review of the city’s anti-dengue campaign.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon chaired the meeting, which reviewed the current dengue situation, vector surveillance, larvae-control operations and enforcement of preventive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the capital.

Surveillance and Enforcement Review

Officials also presented comparative data covering dengue trends in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi, while the meeting examined Islamabad’s case figures for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

According to the briefing shared by the district administration, enforcement teams arrested 170 people during the last 15 days over conditions allegedly contributing to dengue larvae breeding, while 35 locations were sealed.

The district administration also reported imposing more than Rs2.1 million in fines and registering 70 cases as part of the enforcement campaign.

The meeting was informed that surveillance teams detected 7,066 positive larvae findings during the last 15 days, while 499 negative larvae findings were also reported. Under indoor vector surveillance, officials said inspections of more than 100,000 houses had been completed.

The figures underline an important distinction between dengue infections in people and the detection of mosquito larvae: the administration’s reported three cases refer to human dengue cases, while larvae findings indicate breeding activity detected through surveillance and do not represent thousands of dengue patients.

The meeting also reviewed hotspot visits conducted over the previous month and assessed anti-dengue measures being undertaken by different departments, including local government and other relevant agencies.

Authorities Urge Continued Vigilance

Irfan Memon said strict implementation of dengue SOPs was producing positive results and directed authorities to continue action without discrimination against individuals or establishments responsible for conditions that could facilitate mosquito breeding.

The low reported case count comes after Islamabad experienced a substantially heavier dengue burden in 2025. By October 7, 2025, 1,173 cases had been reported, while the seasonal total had reached 2,076 by November 17.

Despite the comparatively low 2026 case figure cited by the administration, continued surveillance remains significant during the mosquito-breeding season. Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services has also published a 2026 dengue advisory covering prevention and control measures.
