700 Cops, Four Checkposts: Security Plan for Imran’s Hospital Transfer

Sources say Islamabad Police are reviewing a high-security transfer plan after the Supreme Court ordered former prime minister Imran Khan to be moved from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police are reviewing extensive security arrangements for the expected transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital, with deployment of hundreds of police personnel and additional checkpoints under consideration, according to sources familiar with the security planning.

Security Plan Under Review

The security deliberations follow the Supreme Court’s order on Tuesday directing authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

Independent reporting by Reuters and AP confirms the court-ordered hospital transfer, while footage from outside Shifa International Hospital showed police presence and media activity around the facility on Tuesday.

Sources said an Islamabad Police meeting was reviewing arrangements for Khan’s movement, including security along the route and around the hospital.

One proposal envisages bringing the former prime minister into the hospital through a rear entrance under what officials intend to be stringent security arrangements.

700 Police Personnel, Checkpoints Proposed

Around 700 police personnel could be deployed outside Shifa International Hospital, while four security checkpoints are also expected to be established around the facility, the sources claimed.

Security across the city and particularly along the transfer route is also expected to be reinforced.

Another proposal being considered is to designate an upper portion of Shifa International Hospital as a sub-jail during Khan’s stay, according to the sources.

These operational details, including the reported 700-person deployment, four checkpoints, rear-gate entry and possible sub-jail designation, should be treated as source-based information unless formally announced by Islamabad Police or another competent authority.

Supreme Court Orders Medical Assessment

The Supreme Court has ordered Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital and the constitution of a medical panel to assess his condition.

Reuters reported that the court directed that his hospital stay continue until September 16 and also instructed supporters not to gather at the hospital.

Transfer Follows Months of Litigation

The hospital transfer comes after months of litigation concerning Khan’s medical treatment.

Earlier proceedings show that he had sought transfer to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive examination and treatment, as well as access to personal physicians and family members.

Bushra Bibi Expected to Remain at Adiala

Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi is expected to remain at Adiala Jail and is not being transferred to the hospital, according to jail sources.

That detail has not been independently confirmed in the reporting reviewed by Islamabad Tribune.
