59 Accused Sent to Jail in Islamabad F-10 Kashmir Protest Case
Islamabad anti-terrorism court sends 59 accused to jail after completion of physical remand; hearing on 96 bail applications adjourned until September 1.
ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Saturday sent 59 accused to jail on judicial remand in a case registered over a Kashmir-related protest held in the capital’s F-10 sector.
Police Do Not Seek Further Physical Remand
Police produced the 59 accused before the court following the completion of their physical remand. According to details from Saturday’s proceedings, police did not seek any further physical custody of the accused, following which the court ordered that they be sent to jail on judicial remand.
Court Issues Notices on Bail Applications
Duty Judge Javad Abbas of the Anti-Terrorism Court heard the case.
The court also issued notices to the concerned parties on bail applications filed by the accused. Arguments could not be held on Saturday on the bail pleas of 37 accused, including former senator Mushtaq Ahmad.
96 Bail Applications Adjourned Until September 1
The court subsequently adjourned proceedings on all 96 bail applications until September 1.
Case Stems From July 31 F-10 Protest
The case stems from a demonstration held in Islamabad’s F-10 Markaz on July 31 in connection with the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The FIR was registered at Shalimar Police Station and includes provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Earlier reporting confirms that dozens of people were detained in connection with the demonstration and subsequently underwent identification proceedings.
59 Accused Identified in Parade
In a previous stage of the case, 59 accused were handed over to police on physical remand after an identification parade. Published reports said 60 detainees underwent the identification process and 59 were identified.
Another 26 Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
The case has involved multiple groups of accused appearing before different duty judges as the investigation and remand proceedings have progressed. On Thursday, another 26 accused in the same F-10 protest case were sent to judicial custody after the court declined a police request for further physical remand.
Allegations Remain Subject to Judicial Determination
The allegations contained in the FIR remain subject to judicial determination, and the accused are entitled to contest them before the courts.
