Fake Doctor Caught on Duty at PIMS Islamabad, Handed Over to Police
The suspect, identified as Mazhar Manzoor Mughal, was allegedly found posing as a doctor in a ward area; a stethoscope and a purported Medical Officer stamp were reportedly recovered before he was handed over to Karachi Company police.
ISLAMABAD: A man allegedly posing as a doctor and performing duties inside the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has been detained and handed over to police for further legal action, according to information circulating about the incident.
The suspect has been identified as Mazhar Manzoor Mughal. He was reportedly present in a ward area of PIMS and was allegedly presenting himself as a medical practitioner when his activities raised suspicion.
During checking, hospital personnel reportedly found that the man was not an authorised doctor. A stethoscope and a purported Medical Officer stamp were also allegedly recovered from his possession.
Following the discovery, the suspect was handed over to Karachi Company Police Station for further investigation and proceedings under the applicable law.
Incident Raises Questions Over Hospital Security
The incident raises questions over access control and identity verification at one of Islamabad’s largest public-sector hospitals, particularly concerning how an allegedly unauthorised individual could enter a clinical area and apparently present himself as medical staff.
Islamabad Tribune could not independently verify from publicly available official records at the time of publication how long the suspect had allegedly been present at the hospital, whether he examined or treated any patients, or how he obtained the purported Medical Officer stamp. These aspects should therefore be treated as subject to investigation.
PIMS is Islamabad’s major tertiary-care public hospital. Notably, PIMS has faced a similar impersonation case in the past: in September 2018, hospital authorities caught another man posing as a doctor and handed him over to Karachi Company police.
