Pakistan’s IT Sector Records $811m Exports in Two Months

IT exports increased 21% over the latest 12-month period to $4.7 billion, while the government targets $10 billion in annual IT exports by FY2029 under the Uraan Pakistan plan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information technology exports rose 17% year-on-year to $394 million in August 2026, taking total IT export proceeds during the first two months of the current fiscal year to $811 million, according to data shared by Topline Securities.

The August increase reflects continued year-on-year growth in the country’s IT services sector, although monthly proceeds were lower than the previous month.

August Exports Fall 6% From July

IT exports declined 6% month-on-month from $417 million recorded in July to $394 million in August. According to Topline Securities, the monthly decline was primarily linked to the lower number of working days during August.

Despite the monthly drop, August exports remained higher than the $337 million recorded during the same month of 2025, maintaining the sector’s year-on-year growth trend.

Trailing 12-Month IT Exports Reach $4.7 Billion

On a trailing 12-month basis, Pakistan’s IT exports reached $4.7 billion, representing 21% year-on-year growth from $3.9 billion during the corresponding period last year.

Net IT exports, calculated after deducting imports, stood at $336 million in August, showing a 10% year-on-year increase.

IT Export Trend Through 2025-26

Monthly IT exports have shown considerable movement over the past year. Exports stood at $337 million in August 2025 before increasing to $366 million in September and $386 million in October.

The figure declined to $356 million in November before reaching $437 million in December, the highest monthly level in the 13-month data.

Exports stood at $374 million in January 2026 and $365 million in February, before rising to $413 million in March and $423 million in April. They then fell to $373 million in May before recovering to $416 million in June and $417 million in July.

August exports subsequently eased to $394 million.

Government Targets $10 Billion in IT Exports

The latest figures come as the government pursues an ambitious expansion of Pakistan’s technology exports under the Uraan Pakistan national economic plan.

The government has set a target of increasing annual IT exports to $10 billion by FY2029. According to Topline Securities, achieving that target would require a compound annual growth rate of 28.4% through FY2029.

The latest export figures show continued expansion in the sector, while the pace of growth over the coming years will determine how quickly Pakistan can move towards its $10 billion target.
