PIA Temporarily Suspends Riyadh Flights Amid Regional Tensions
Pakistan International Airlines announces a temporary suspension of its Riyadh flight operations amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, advising passengers to confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport.

ISLAMABAD, October 9, 2026 (Islamabad Tribune) : Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its flight operations to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in response to the prevailing situation in the Middle East, the national flag carrier announced on Friday.
According to an official statement issued by a PIA spokesperson in Islamabad, the decision has been taken in view of the developing regional situation, which has created uncertainty for international aviation operations.
The airline has advised passengers travelling to Riyadh to verify the latest status of their scheduled flights before departing for the airport to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
“Passengers are requested to contact the PIA Call Centre at 111-786-786 to obtain the latest information regarding their flights before proceeding to the airport,” the airline said in its advisory.
PIA also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of the temporary suspension.
Suspension Comes Amid Wider Regional Flight Disruptions
The airline’s announcement comes at a time when several international carriers have suspended or adjusted their Riyadh operations following heightened security concerns in the Middle East.
International news agencies have reported significant disruptions at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport after developments affecting regional aviation safety.
Other international airlines, including Lufthansa Group carriers and several Indian airlines, have also announced temporary flight suspensions or cancellations involving the Saudi capital.
The disruptions highlight growing concerns over the operational challenges facing commercial aviation in the region.
Advisory for Passengers Travelling From Islamabad
The announcement is particularly relevant for passengers travelling between Islamabad and Riyadh, including Pakistani expatriates, business travellers and families planning journeys to Saudi Arabia.
Passengers holding confirmed PIA bookings have been advised to contact the airline directly for the latest information regarding departure schedules, flight cancellations and available travel arrangements.
Travellers should also retain their booking details and check whether their scheduled service has been affected before making arrangements to travel to Islamabad International Airport or other departure points.
The airline has not specified the duration of the suspension or announced a confirmed date for the resumption of Riyadh services.
PIA’s statement also did not provide a flight-by-flight cancellation schedule or clarify whether other Saudi Arabian destinations would be affected.
Passengers Urged to Follow Official Updates
Passengers planning urgent journeys to Saudi Arabia are encouraged to obtain information directly from PIA rather than relying on unverified information circulated through social media.
Those whose bookings are affected may contact the airline for guidance on potential rescheduling or refunds, subject to applicable ticket conditions and the arrangements announced by PIA.
The latest disruption underlines the importance of monitoring official airline advisories as regional conditions continue to develop.
