Islamabad Begins Removing Containers After KP Governor’s Rule

Removal of shipping containers starts at Serena Chowk following the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking the beginning of efforts to clear road barriers in the federal capital.

ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2026: The removal of shipping containers from Islamabad has begun, with the process starting at Serena Chowk following the imposition of emergency measures and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Containers Being Removed from Serena Chowk

According to initial reports from the federal capital, containers are being removed from Serena Chowk, one of the locations where barriers had been placed during heightened security arrangements.

The development comes a day after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, following recommendations from the federal cabinet.

The federal government invoked Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, transferring provincial government functions to the governor under the new administrative arrangements.

Road Barriers Had Restricted Access to Key Areas

In Islamabad, shipping containers had previously been positioned at several important locations, including Serena Chowk, D-Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Avenue and other major access routes, as part of security measures associated with planned political demonstrations.

The barriers had affected access to important sections of the capital, particularly routes approaching the Red Zone.

The latest reported activity at Serena Chowk indicates that the process of removing physical road barriers has started.

Status of Other Roads Remains Unclear

However, there has been no independently confirmed announcement establishing whether all roads around Serena Chowk have reopened completely or when containers at other locations will be removed.

The development follows significant political and administrative changes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the federal government has established an 11-member Advisory Council to assist the governor in managing provincial affairs.

The situation regarding Islamabad’s remaining road restrictions and the restoration of normal traffic access remains subject to further official updates.
