IG’s Office Means Responsibility, Not Power: Sohail Chaudhry
Islamabad Police chief emphasises protection of citizens and personnel, professional discipline, public service and staff welfare while recognising outstanding police performance.

ISLAMABAD, October 14, 2026: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, has delivered an important message to members of the capital’s police force, emphasising that his position represents a responsibility to protect police personnel and citizens rather than merely an exercise of authority.
“The IG’s position is not about authority, but the responsibility to protect police personnel and citizens,” Chaudhry said in remarks attributed to him.
The statement reflects his emphasis on responsible leadership, professional policing and the protection of those serving in uniform alongside the citizens of Islamabad.
The Islamabad police chief has stressed that the responsibilities associated with leading the federal capital’s police extend beyond administrative powers and include ensuring effective policing, supporting personnel and improving public confidence in the institution.
Police Chief Recognises Outstanding Performance
According to an official Islamabad Police statement issued on October 14, the IGP held a meeting with SP City Zone Muhammad Khurram Ashraf and his team at the Central Police Office.
During the meeting, he appreciated the professional performance of officers and personnel who had demonstrated dedication and commitment to their responsibilities.
He presented certificates of appreciation to outstanding officers and officials, acknowledging their contributions towards maintaining law and order and improving police performance.
Chaudhry described dedicated and hardworking personnel as valuable assets to Islamabad Police and encouraged them to continue discharging their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity and determination.
Protection of Citizens Remains Central Priority
The IGP directed police officers to intensify measures against criminal activities, strengthen preventive policing and ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property throughout Islamabad.
He emphasised that officers must perform their duties with professionalism, responsibility and commitment while ensuring timely assistance to the public.
The police chief also highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law and maintaining effective policing standards across the federal capital.
His directions underline the department’s stated priorities of improving public service delivery, strengthening operational performance and maintaining a safe environment for residents.
Welfare of Police Personnel Also Emphasised
Alongside operational matters, the Islamabad police chief reiterated the importance of addressing the legitimate concerns of police personnel.
During an Orderly Room held at the Central Police Office, Chaudhry personally listened to departmental and individual grievances presented by officers and officials.
After reviewing the matters, he issued directions to the relevant officers for their timely resolution in accordance with departmental rules and merit.
He maintained that recognising outstanding performance, supporting police personnel and addressing legitimate grievances were among the department’s priorities.
The approach reflects his message that police leadership carries responsibilities towards both the workforce and the public.
Commitment to Responsible Police Leadership
Since assuming charge as Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police in September 2026, Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry has repeatedly emphasised professional accountability, effective service delivery, public protection and the welfare of police personnel.
During official meetings and field visits, he has directed officers to strengthen preventive policing, improve responses to public complaints and maintain professional conduct in their interactions with citizens.
The police chief’s latest message places responsibility and public service at the centre of his approach to leading Islamabad Police.
His emphasis on protecting citizens while supporting police personnel highlights the dual obligations of police leadership in maintaining public order and ensuring that officers are adequately supported in carrying out their duties.
Islamabad Police has reiterated its commitment to professional policing, effective public service delivery and the protection of lives and property across the federal capital.
