RAWALPINDI: October 21: Senior Dunya News crime reporter and Islamabad Crime Reporters Association (ICRA) Vice President Adil Tanoli reported that two motorcycle riders snatched his mobile phone on Murree Road near Mareer Chowk on Tuesday night, prompting calls for swift action from the capital’s crime-reporting community.

According to the supplied first information report, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30pm on October 20, near a petrol station while Tanoli was travelling from Rawalpindi towards Islamabad.

The complaint states that two men approached from behind on a Honda 125 motorcycle, took the phone he was using and fled towards Faizabad.

City Police Station registered FIR No. 513/26 at 10pm that evening. The FIR lists one iPhone 17 Pro Max, valued by the complainant at Rs300,000.

According to an update supplied with the association’s statement, Crime Control Department (CCD) Regional Officer Rawalpindi Hassan Jahangir formed four teams and directed them to apprehend those responsible within 48 hours. An official written order confirming these directions was not available in the supplied material.

Islamabad Reporters Demand Action

In a statement issued by Information Secretary Muhammad Nasir Butt, ICRA expressed serious concern over the incident involving its vice president.

Association President Qamarul Munawar condemned the incident and called on the Rawalpindi city police officer and CCD’s regional officer to ensure prompt action and recovery of the stolen phone.

He described such incidents as a challenge to public safety and police effectiveness.

The association’s secretary said the incident had caused concern among journalists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, particularly crime reporters. The association warned that it would boycott Rawalpindi Police activities and stage a protest if authorities failed to take timely action to apprehend those responsible and recover the phone.

ICRA Chairman Shakeel Karrar also called for measures to protect journalists, saying such incidents could disrupt their professional work.
