ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stepped up preparations for local government elections in the federal capital by seeking key documents required for the delimitation process, sources said.
According to sources, the commission has written to the Ministry of Interior and the ICT Administration, directing them to provide essential records needed for the conduct of local government elections.
The requested information includes details regarding the boundaries of town corporations, the number of union councils, updated maps, census charges, circles and blocks within Islamabad.
Sources said the ECP has expressed concern that important records required for delimitation have yet to be received despite an earlier deadline. The commission has now instructed the relevant authorities to submit the documents within three days.
Officials familiar with the process stated that the delimitation exercise, a prerequisite for holding local government elections, cannot proceed without the required administrative and census-related data.
The latest correspondence comes after a previously granted 10-day period for submission of the records expired without the complete information being provided, according to sources.
