Islamabad to Get Electric Double-Decker Sightseeing Buses

Proposed sightseeing service will connect more than 15 recreational, scenic and heritage destinations, with each electric double-decker accommodating up to 90 passengers, including 67 seated travellers.

ISLAMABAD: Residents and tourists could soon get a new way to explore the federal capital as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to introduce electric double-decker buses for sightseeing across Islamabad.

Electric Double-Deckers Planned for Sightseeing

The initiative, officially announced by the CDA on September 25, is designed as a dedicated sightseeing service rather than an ordinary city bus route, connecting more than 15 major recreational, scenic and heritage destinations across the capital.

Major Islamabad Attractions on Proposed Route

According to the CDA, the proposed route will include Lake View Park, Shakarparian, Pakistan Monument, Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh and D-Chowk, along with other important attractions. The dedicated circuit is intended to allow residents as well as domestic and international tourists to visit multiple Islamabad landmarks through one organised service.

Buses to Carry Up to 90 Passengers

Each electric double-decker will have a maximum capacity of 90 passengers, including 67 seats. CDA says the buses will also feature low-floor boarding and dedicated wheelchair space to improve accessibility. Air-conditioning and modern braking, stability and suspension systems are also planned.

Zero-Emission Transport for Tourism

The authority says the zero-emission electric buses are intended to combine tourism with environmentally responsible urban mobility, while providing families, students, senior citizens and other visitors with easier access to Islamabad’s attractions.

Islamabad Expands Electric Bus Network

The initiative comes as Islamabad continues expanding its electric public-transport infrastructure. Earlier this year, the number of electric buses operating in the capital reached 160 following the inauguration of additional buses, a depot and charging infrastructure.

Launch Details Yet to Be Announced

However, CDA has not yet announced the sightseeing service’s launch date, fares, operating frequency
