Islamabad Traffic Police Issued 708,325 Challans in FY2025–26, Ministry Says

Written parliamentary reply puts traffic fine receipts at Rs631.675 million and spending on 244 Islamabad Police vehicles at approximately Rs2.478 billion.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police issued 708,325 traffic challans during financial year 2025–26, while Rs631.675 million in traffic fine receipts was deposited in the government treasury, according to information attributed to a written National Assembly reply by Federal Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi.

The Ministry of Interior’s figures also show that 244 vehicles were purchased for Islamabad Police during the same financial year at a total cost of Rs2,477,989,620.

The two sets of figures cover traffic enforcement receipts and vehicle procurement respectively. The supplied information does not establish that traffic fine collections financed the vehicle purchases.

Digital Collection and Treasury Deposits

According to the ministry’s account, traffic fines are collected through digital payments using 1LINK and authorised payment channels.

The receipts are subsequently deposited in the government account through the federal treasury following accounting and verification procedures, the reply states.

The reported deposit of Rs631,675,000 is equivalent to Rs63 crore, 16 lakh and 75 thousand.

The supplied summary does not provide a breakdown by traffic violation, month or enforcement location. It also does not identify how many of the challans issued during the reporting period remained unpaid, were challenged or were subsequently cancelled.

Consequently, the number of challans and the amount deposited should be reported as separate totals rather than treated as evidence that every challan issued during the year was paid.

Vehicle Purchases for Operational Requirements

The ministry said the 244 vehicles were acquired to meet Islamabad Police’s operational needs and help maintain law and order in the federal capital.

The reported procurement expenditure amounts to approximately Rs2.478 billion, or Rs247.799 crore.

The figures provide an account of the capital’s traffic fine receipts and police vehicle expenditure. They do not, by themselves, establish changes in road safety, traffic compliance or police response performance.
