Khanna Police Station Demolished From Islamabad Expressway Green Belt

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi says the station has been shifted temporarily and a new site has been allocated for its permanent building.

ISLAMABAD, October 30: The building housing Khanna Police Station on the green belt along Islamabad Expressway has been demolished as part of an operation against structures on public land, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said.

Naqvi supervised the operation, which was also attended by the Islamabad chief commissioner, the Inspector General of Police and other officials, according to the minister.

The police station has been moved temporarily to another location. A new site has been allocated for a permanent building, Naqvi said, adding that the new premises would be constructed there.

He said the operation was aimed at clearing public land regardless of whether it was occupied by a private person or a government body. Land held by institutions under the Interior Ministry was also being recovered, he added.

Naqvi cited the recent demolition of an FC camp office near the Marriott Hotel as another example of action involving a government facility. He said the operations would continue and that the government’s target was to eliminate all encroachments from Islamabad.

“We want to make Islamabad a beautiful, green and encroachment-free city,” the minister said.

Wider Anti-Encroachment Campaign Along Islamabad Expressway

The demolition follows a wider enforcement campaign along Islamabad Expressway East. In September, the Capital Development Authority said 377 structures had been identified for action along the corridor, including 124 between Sohan and Khanna Pul marked for demolition. The authority said the campaign was being conducted with the district administration and Islamabad Police under applicable building-control and land-use rules.

Khanna Police Station was established in 2015 to serve areas including Islamabad Expressway, Faizabad, Zia Masjid, Shakrial and Margalla Town.
