PAC Raises Alarm Over Rising Out-of-School Children in Islamabad

Committee directs the Ministry of Federal Education to draft a comprehensive education policy within two months as officials reveal only seven new schools have been built in Islamabad over the past decade despite rising numbers of out-of-school children.

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised serious concerns over the growing number of out-of-school children in Islamabad despite a series of education reforms introduced since 2014.

During a committee meeting, officials from the Ministry of Federal Education informed lawmakers that only seven new schools have been constructed in the federal capital over the past ten years, citing limited development funding as a major obstacle to expanding educational infrastructure.

PAC members questioned the pace of progress in improving access to education and stressed the need for urgent measures to address the increasing number of children who remain outside the formal education system.

The committee directed the Ministry of Federal Education to formulate a comprehensive education policy within the next two months. The proposed policy should include plans for establishing new schools, recruiting teachers, improving educational facilities, and increasing access to quality education across Islamabad.

The committee emphasized that strengthening the education sector is essential to ensuring that every child in the federal capital has access to schooling
