Deadly M-2 Pile-Up Near Capital Smart City

National Highways and Motorway Police and rescue teams respond after a bus and several other vehicles collide during severe rainfall near the Islamabad end of the M-2.

ISLAMABAD: At least one person was killed and 10 others injured after a bus and several other vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the M-2 Motorway near Capital Smart City amid severe rainfall, according to preliminary information shared by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).

Multiple Vehicles Collide Amid Heavy Rain

The incident occurred on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway near Capital Smart City, where multiple vehicles reportedly collided during heavy rain.

A passenger bus was among the vehicles involved in the crash.

According to the initial NHMP information, one passenger travelling in the bus lost their life, while at least 10 people sustained injuries. The casualty figures remain preliminary and could be revised as rescue and medical operations continue.

Rescue Teams Reach Accident Site

Motorway Police personnel and rescue emergency teams reached the scene and launched relief operations.

Injured passengers were being provided first aid at the site, while arrangements were underway to shift those requiring further treatment to hospitals.

The exact sequence of the collisions and the condition of individual injured passengers were not immediately available.

The information released so far attributes the incident to severe rainfall, though any definitive determination of the cause would depend on the authorities’ assessment of the crash.

Motorists Advised to Exercise Caution

Capital Smart City has direct access to the M-2 in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad region. Publicly available route information places the area toward the Islamabad end of the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway.

The M-2 is the principal motorway connection between Lahore and Islamabad and falls under the traffic-safety and enforcement jurisdiction of the National Highways and Motorway Police.

Motorists travelling through rain-affected sections are advised to reduce speed, maintain greater distance from vehicles ahead and avoid sudden braking where visibility and road grip are compromised.
