CDA Recovers 26 G-6 Flats, Action to Continue Against Illegal Occupants

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken possession of 26 government residential flats in Islamabad’s G-6 sector as part of an operation against what it describes as illegal occupation of official accommodation. The authority says the operation will continue against occupants who fail to vacate the premises voluntarily after the expiry of official notices.

According to CDA officials, nearly 200 government flats in G-6 were identified as being under alleged illegal occupation. Following the issuance of written operation orders and eviction notices, a number of occupants voluntarily began vacating the flats, prompting the authority to postpone the wider operation temporarily. Officials said enforcement teams, with the assistance of Islamabad Police and the district administration, took possession of 26 flats during the initial phase.
CDA maintains that the occupants have no legal right to continue residing in the government residences after the expiry of their entitlement. The authority has stated that strict legal action will be taken against those who refuse to hand over possession voluntarily in the coming days.

The G-6 government flats were originally developed as part of a federal housing redevelopment initiative aimed at replacing old government accommodation with modern apartment complexes for public servants. Over the years, however, a significant number of these residences allegedly remained occupied despite the retirement, transfer or death of the original allottees, leading to prolonged legal and administrative disputes.
The issue has also been examined by the superior judiciary. Court proceedings in previous years directed authorities to act against unauthorized occupation of government residences and to ensure that official housing is allocated in accordance with the law. These judicial directions have formed the legal basis for successive eviction drives in the G-6 flats.

CDA officials say recovering the flats is part of a broader effort to protect public assets, improve transparency in the allocation of official residences and ensure that government housing remains available for serving employees who are legally entitled to accommodation. The authority has indicated that additional operations will be carried out after the completion of legal formalities for the remaining flats.
