ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has taken legal action against more than 66,000 traffic violations during a month-long special enforcement campaign launched on the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi to improve road safety and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws across the capital.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Kainat Azhar Khan, the campaign resulted in legal action against 66,089 traffic violations. During the operation, 6,562 motorcycles and 3,285 vehicles were impounded at various police stations for violations of traffic regulations, while 379 criminal cases were registered against individuals involved in serious traffic offences.

The campaign focused on major violations including lane discipline breaches, wrong-way driving, riding without helmets, use of non-standard number plates, illegal parking, overloading, and other offences that pose risks to public safety.

Alongside enforcement, the Islamabad Traffic Police Education Wing organised 111 road safety workshops and awareness sessions, reaching more than 94,000 citizens with information on traffic laws, safe driving practices, and responsible road use.

CTO Kainat Azhar Khan urged citizens to demonstrate responsible civic behaviour by making compliance with traffic laws part of their daily routine. She emphasised that driving without a valid licence is not only a violation of the law but also endangers the lives and property of both the driver and other road users.

She further stated that Islamabad Traffic Police would not allow anyone to put public safety at risk and that indiscriminate legal action against traffic violators would continue. She reaffirmed that establishing a safe, organised, and integrated traffic system, reducing road accidents, and providing citizens with better commuting facilities remain the top priorities of the Islamabad Traffic Police.
