FIA Arrests Hospital CEO in Kidney Transplant Case

Dr Shaukat Ali Bangash has been arrested in FIR No. 16/2026 as investigators examine allegations of facilitation of illegal and commercial kidney transplantation at Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has arrested Dr Shaukat Ali Bangash, founder and chief executive of Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, in connection with an investigation into an alleged illegal kidney transplantation network operating in the federal capital.

Dr Bangash Arrested in FIR No. 16/2026

According to information attributed to FIA officials, Dr Bangash was taken into custody as a nominated accused in FIR No. 16/2026.

Investigators allege that illegal and commercially arranged kidney transplants were facilitated at the hospital.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and Dr Bangash is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.

Investigation Into Alleged Transplant Network

The investigation centres on allegations that individuals associated with the transplant network facilitated kidney transplantation outside the legally permitted framework and on a commercial basis.

FIA officials allege that Dr Bangash facilitated activities involving Dr Nadir, transplant coordinator Adeel Shirazi and other individuals under investigation.

Six suspects, including individuals linked to the alleged transplant operation, had previously been arrested and sent to judicial custody, according to the agency.

The Islamabad High Court had also rejected post-arrest bail applications of previously detained suspects, according to information provided in connection with the investigation.

FIA Likely to Seek Physical Remand

Following his arrest, Dr Bangash is expected to be produced before the relevant court, where the FIA will seek physical remand for further questioning.

Investigators are also examining the potential roles of hospital employees and other individuals allegedly connected to the network.

FIA officials expect further questioning to help identify additional suspected facilitators and establish how the alleged operation functioned.

Hospital Background

Independent background checks by Islamabad Tribune confirm that Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital publicly identifies Dr Shaukat Ali Bangash as its founder and CEO and lists kidney transplantation among the specialist services it has developed.

The hospital has publicly documented kidney transplant procedures dating back several years.

Investigation Dates Back to May

The current investigation has a longer trail.

A report published on May 30, 2026 said the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle had registered FIRs No. 15/2026 and 16/2026 in connection with alleged illegal organ transplantation and had summoned Dr Bangash as part of the investigation.

That report said FIR No. 16/2026 followed an operation at Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital where an allegedly illegal kidney transplant was reportedly taking place.

No Finding of Guilt at This Stage

Islamabad Tribune has not independently verified every allegation contained in the FIA case record.

No finding of criminal guilt should be inferred from an arrest, investigation or rejection of bail. The final determination of criminal liability rests with the competent courts.

At the time of publication, a detailed public response from Dr Bangash or Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital addressing the latest arrest allegations was not located.

Any response subsequently issued by the accused or hospital management should be incorporated into coverage to ensure their position is represented.
