Body of 13-Year-Old Areeba Found After Three-Day Search in Rawalpindi
Rescue teams recovered the 13-year-old near Jhawarian on Adiala Road after conducting an extensive search along the rainwater channel following the August 31 incident.
RAWALPINDI: The body of 13-year-old Areeba Tayyab, who was swept away by fast-moving rainwater in New Gulzar-e-Quaid, Rawalpindi, has been recovered after a three-day search operation.
According to Rescue 1122, the girl was recovered near Jhawarian on Adiala Road, several kilometres from the location where she had gone missing. Rescue personnel, including divers and swimmers, had been searching along the water channel using boats as well as line and bank-search techniques.
Three-Day Search Operation
The incident occurred on August 31, when Areeba was caught in rapidly flowing rainwater in New Gulzar-e-Quaid. CCTV footage of the incident subsequently circulated on social media, showing the girl losing her footing amid the strong flow before being carried away.
Reports citing Rescue 1122 said the operation covered approximately 10 kilometres, while rescuers faced difficult conditions due to the depth and flow of water in the channel. The search continued for three days before Areeba was eventually located near Adiala Road.
The incident came amid exceptionally heavy rainfall across Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which caused severe water accumulation and disruption in several localities of the twin cities.
