Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Renames Islamabad IT Park as Danish IT Park

The new facility aims to promote artificial intelligence, develop IT skills among young people and support startups and technology businesses across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, October 10, 2026 , Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday inaugurated Islamabad’s National Technology Park and announced that it would be named the Danish IT Park, describing it as an initiative to promote artificial intelligence (AI), information technology and innovation in Pakistan.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said the facility would provide opportunities for young people to acquire modern technology skills, develop innovative ideas and establish businesses in the IT sector.

He said the park would support startup incubation, small and medium-sized enterprises, technology companies and young entrepreneurs, adding that expertise in AI and IT could also contribute to advancements in agriculture, manufacturing, industry and mining.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the South Korean ambassador and representatives of the technology industry.

Government Plans to Expand Technology Park Model

Shehbaz Sharif said the government intended to expand the model to other parts of the country, including the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The prime minister said the relevant ministry had been directed to invite local and international IT and AI companies to participate in a transparent process for selecting an organisation to manage the facility. He said the selected company would oversee day-to-day operations under professional management arrangements.

Project History and South Korean Cooperation

Referring to the project’s history, Shehbaz Sharif said its foundation had been laid in 2017-18 and that its completion had required sustained efforts by the relevant ministries and officials. He acknowledged the contributions of the teams involved in bringing the project to the inauguration stage.

The prime minister also thanked South Korea for its cooperation, recalling his longstanding engagement with the country’s business and industrial sector. He said Pakistan would maintain the facility and work towards making it a successful technology centre.

Danish IT Park to Promote Education and Skills Development

Explaining the name Danish IT Park, Shehbaz Sharif referred to the Danish Schools initiative, which he said had provided educational opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. He said the IT park reflected a similar vision of expanding opportunities through education, training and skills development.

The facility is intended to provide infrastructure and support services for technology businesses, startups and IT professionals. Its future impact will depend on operational arrangements, access to training, participation by companies and the opportunities made available to young people.

The inauguration marks a new phase for Islamabad’s technology infrastructure, with the government expressing its intention to use the facility as a model for wider technology development across Pakistan.
