Islamabad is set to receive major technical support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for long-term water sector reforms and infrastructure development.
Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf, held an important meeting with the JICA delegation to discuss sustainable solutions for water supply, sewerage, and drainage challenges in the federal capital.
During the meeting, it was decided that JICA will work on a comprehensive Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Master Plan for Islamabad, keeping the city’s future requirements in view till 2060.
Chairman CDA emphasized that sustainable measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted clean water supply, reduce water losses, and upgrade Islamabad’s aging water infrastructure. Shahdara and Dotara Dam projects, along with Simly and Sangjani Water Filtration Plants, were also discussed for further Japanese technical assistance.
Later, the JICA delegation visited Simly and Sangjani Water Filtration Plants to review the ongoing infrastructure and operational needs.
