Mohsin Naqvi Says No Room Left to Avoid Emergency in KP
Interior Minister says he made every possible effort, asking others to verify his attempts through Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that there is no room left to avoid imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming that he made every possible effort to find a way forward.
During an informal conversation, Naqvi said, “There is no room left for an emergency not to be imposed,” adding that others should explain what options remain at this stage.
The minister also referred to his efforts to engage political leaders, particularly Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
“Ask Maulana Fazlur Rehman yourself how hard I tried,” Naqvi said, according to the remarks shared with the media.
He further urged others to ask Barrister Gohar about his efforts, saying that he had tried until the final possible stage but had nothing more to offer.
Emergency Proposal Amid Political Tensions
The remarks come amid continuing political tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with discussions over the province’s security situation and the possibility of imposing an emergency gaining momentum.
On October 10, reports indicated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari had discussed the situation at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The federal government was reported to be preparing to seek approval for an emergency through the relevant constitutional process. KP Governor Says No Official Announcement Yet
However, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi said that no official announcement regarding the imposition of an emergency had been made at that point, adding that the situation would become clearer following the federal cabinet meeting. Barrister Gohar, meanwhile, has opposed the proposed move, maintaining that an emergency or governor’s rule would not resolve the province’s problems and calling for political dialogue to address the differences.
The latest remarks by Naqvi highlight the difficulties surrounding efforts to reach an agreement between the political stakeholders. The formal status of any emergency-related decision remains subject to official announcements and the applicable constitutional process.
