Daily Traffic Congestion Troubles Faizabad–I-8 Bridge Commuters

Daily traffic congestion between Faizabad Interchange and the I-8 bridge causes growing frustration among commuters, raising concerns over traffic management, peak-hour delays and road capacity in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD, October 8, 2026: Persistent traffic congestion between Faizabad Interchange and the I-8 Bridge has become a recurring problem for motorists in the federal capital, with commuters facing long queues, slow-moving vehicles and frustrating delays during their daily journeys.

The busy stretch of Islamabad Expressway serves as a vital connection between Rawalpindi and central Islamabad, accommodating thousands of vehicles travelling towards offices, educational institutions, commercial areas and residential sectors.

Recurring traffic jams along this section have raised concerns among citizens over the effectiveness of traffic management arrangements, particularly during morning and evening rush hours.

Growing Pressure on a Major Commuter Route

Faizabad Interchange is among the capital’s most important road junctions, connecting Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road and I.J. Principal Road.

Traffic moving from Rawalpindi towards Islamabad converges around Faizabad before continuing towards the I-8 Bridge, Zero Point and other parts of the federal capital.

As a result, congestion at key merging points can affect vehicles travelling along the entire corridor, particularly when traffic volumes rise during peak commuting periods.

For office employees, students, business owners and other regular road users, unpredictable journey times create considerable inconvenience and make daily travel planning increasingly difficult.

Traffic Checkpoints and Peak-Hour Management

Traffic management around Faizabad has remained a concern for authorities over recent months.

In June 2026, published reports highlighted how additional police checkpoints near Faizabad had contributed to congestion on Islamabad Expressway, with vehicles experiencing delays around security arrangements.

In July, Islamabad Traffic Police acknowledged the need for improved traffic management at the interchange.

Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan inspected arrangements at Faizabad and directed traffic personnel to maintain uninterrupted movement during rush hours.

Authorities also confirmed that morning traffic diversions were being implemented between 7am and 10am to manage vehicles entering Islamabad Expressway from Rawalpindi’s Murree Road.

However, the precise causes of the latest reported congestion between Faizabad and the I-8 Bridge have not been independently established.

October 8 Traffic Advisory Raises Additional Concerns

The latest complaints come as Islamabad Police issued a separate traffic advisory for October 8 concerning temporary diversions on major roads during the movement of foreign delegations.

The advisory warned of increased traffic pressure across different routes in the federal capital and recommended allowing an additional 20 to 25 minutes for travel.

Although the advisory was not specifically limited to the Faizabad–I-8 corridor, temporary diversions elsewhere in the road network can place additional pressure on alternative routes.

Infrastructure Improvements and Long-Term Solutions

The Capital Development Authority has previously undertaken improvements around Faizabad Interchange, including work to expand its traffic loops to improve connectivity between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Separately, the CDA is progressing with the Islamabad Expressway Service Road East Project. During an inspection in early October, the CDA chairman directed officials to accelerate construction while maintaining quality standards.

These initiatives are intended to improve road capacity and connectivity, although their precise impact on the recurring congestion reported between Faizabad and the I-8 Bridge remains to be assessed.

Citizens Seek Lasting Relief from Congestion

The recurring traffic problems highlight the need for closer coordination between Islamabad Traffic Police, the CDA and other relevant authorities.

Improved management of merging traffic, consistent deployment of traffic personnel during peak hours, timely public advisories and a technical assessment of congestion points could help improve conditions.

Regular commuters would also benefit from more effective monitoring of traffic flow, better coordination during temporary diversions and timely information about alternative routes.

Motorists are meanwhile advised to check official traffic updates before travelling and allow additional journey time during busy periods.

For commuters regularly travelling between Faizabad and the I-8 Bridge, the central concern remains the same: a more predictable, reliable and efficient journey through one of Islamabad’s busiest road corridors.
