Mohsin Naqvi Hands Over 10 Islamabad Police Armoured Vehicles to KP Police
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirms that 10 newly acquired armoured vehicles have been handed over to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police on the prime minister's instructions amid growing security challenges.

ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2026: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced the transfer of 10 newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) from Islamabad Police to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The decision was taken in response to the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where growing security challenges have prompted the federal government to strengthen the operational capabilities of provincial law enforcement agencies.
Prime Minister Orders Immediate Transfer
In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that he had personally handed over the 10 armoured vehicles to KP Police following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Naqvi, the prime minister directed the immediate transfer of the vehicles after reviewing the security situation and the increasing number of terrorism-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The vehicles had recently been acquired for Islamabad Police but have now been allocated to KP Police to support ongoing security operations.
Federal Government Pledges Full Support
The interior minister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to providing resources and operational assistance to KP Police.
He described the campaign against terrorism as a collective national responsibility and emphasised that federal institutions would continue supporting provincial law enforcement agencies in protecting citizens and maintaining public safety.
Naqvi said the federal government would extend every possible form of assistance to strengthen the capabilities of KP Police.
The transfer represents an immediate redistribution of police equipment from the federal capital to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in response to the province’s security requirements.
Decision Follows High-Level Security Discussions
The announcement coincided with a meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Apex Committee in Peshawar on October 12, chaired by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The committee reviewed the province’s security situation and called for stronger coordination between federal and provincial institutions.
Participants emphasised the need to improve the operational capacity of KP Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) through modern equipment, logistical assistance and additional resources.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also confirmed that the interior minister had handed over 10 armoured personnel carriers to the provincial police.
Modern Armoured Vehicles to Strengthen Policing
Armoured personnel carriers are specialised protective vehicles designed to transport police personnel and provide additional protection during high-risk security operations.
Such vehicles can support the movement of personnel in vulnerable areas and improve the protection available to police teams responding to serious security threats.
The delivery of 10 additional APCs is intended to improve KP Police’s operational readiness, although their eventual deployment locations have not been publicly specified.
Details of Procurement and Replacement Remain Unclear
While the interior minister confirmed the transfer, detailed information regarding the vehicles’ purchase cost, technical specifications and procurement arrangements was not included in his announcement.
It also remains unclear whether replacement armoured vehicles will be provided to Islamabad Police or how the transfer will affect the federal capital’s existing police vehicle resources.
The latest handover follows an earlier federal initiative in October 2025, when the Ministry of Interior provided bulletproof vehicles to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
The federal government has maintained that strengthening police capabilities and improving coordination between security institutions remain central to its efforts to restore lasting stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
