ISLAMABAD: October 18, 2026: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has released its first-month performance report following the appointment of Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, reporting 1,129 arrests, 272 registered cases and the recovery of Rs105.3 million for affected citizens during nationwide action against cybercrime.

According to an official statement issued by the NCCIA spokesperson, the agency received 5,176 complaints from citizens across Pakistan during the reporting period, reflecting the volume of matters being brought before the country’s specialised digital investigation authority.

4,491 Inquiries Registered, 272 Cases Filed

The spokesperson said that 4,491 formal inquiries were registered in response to complaints received by the agency during the month.

Following the completion of relevant inquiries, NCCIA registered 272 criminal cases against individuals suspected of involvement in cyber-related offences.

The figures highlight the agency’s reported investigative activity during its first month under the new leadership, covering complaint registration, preliminary examination, formal investigations and subsequent legal proceedings.

However, the performance statement did not provide an offence-wise breakdown of the registered cases or specify the number of investigations that resulted in prosecution or conviction.

Nationwide Operations Lead to 1,129 Arrests

As part of its intensified nationwide operations, the NCCIA reported arresting 1,129 individuals suspected of involvement in cyber-related offences.

The spokesperson described the actions as part of a broader enforcement campaign aimed at strengthening accountability and addressing complaints involving unlawful online activities.

The agency’s mandate includes investigating digital financial fraud, online harassment, identity theft, unauthorised access to digital information and other offences falling within applicable cybercrime legislation.

The arrests represent reported enforcement activity, while the legal responsibility of individuals facing allegations remains subject to investigation and determination by the courts.

Rs105.3 Million Recovered for Affected Citizens

One of the most significant outcomes highlighted in the performance report was the recovery of Rs105.3 million, equivalent to Rs10 crore and 53 lakh, which the agency said had been returned to affected citizens.

According to the spokesperson, the recovered funds were secured through enforcement and investigative efforts undertaken during the reporting period.

Financial recovery is an important aspect of cybercrime investigations, particularly in cases where citizens experience monetary losses through unlawful digital transactions and other online financial schemes.

The statement did not provide a breakdown of the amount recovered in individual cases or specify the number of beneficiaries who received repayments.

Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s First Month as NCCIA Chief

Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who previously served as Inspector General of Islamabad Police, was appointed Director General of the NCCIA in September 2026 and formally assumed charge on September 15.

Following his appointment, Rizvi outlined priorities focused on strengthening cybercrime investigations, improving complaint-handling procedures, enhancing institutional accountability and intensifying action against unlawful digital activities.

His initial directives also emphasised better monitoring of regional offices, timely processing of complaints and improving the agency’s operational responsiveness.

The latest performance report provides an overview of the agency’s reported nationwide activity during the first month of his leadership.

Zero-Tolerance Policy to Continue

Commenting on the agency’s performance, DG NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi reiterated his commitment to ensuring the digital protection of citizens.

He said measures would continue to safeguard people against cyber-related offences and strengthen the agency’s response to complaints.

Rizvi further stated that the agency would strictly maintain its zero-tolerance policy against cybercrime.

The NCCIA chief emphasised that protecting citizens in the digital environment would remain a priority as the agency continued its enforcement operations across Pakistan.

NCCIA’s Role in Digital Protection

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency operates under Pakistan’s federal legal framework for investigating offences covered by the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, as amended.

The agency maintains regional offices across the country, including Islamabad, where its headquarters are located.

Citizens wishing to report suspected cyber offences can contact the NCCIA through its official helpline, 1799, or submit complaints through its online complaint portal at complaint.nccia.gov.pk.

The newly released figures provide a snapshot of reported complaints, investigations, legal proceedings, arrests and financial recoveries during the first month under Rizvi’s leadership.

While the performance statement indicates substantial enforcement activity, further assessments of the agency’s effectiveness will depend on case outcomes, successful prosecutions, recovery verification and the timely resolution of complaints.

The performance figures are attributed to the official NCCIA spokesperson’s statement.
