Nearly 200 Kanals Reclaimed Near Margalla Trail 3 for Forest Restoration

CDA Chairman Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf says indigenous tree species were planted on the reclaimed land in February 2026 to restore the natural landscape of the Margalla foothills.

ISLAMABAD: Nearly 200 kanals of land surrounding Margalla Trail 3, previously occupied by encroachments, has been reclaimed and is now being transformed into a native forest as part of efforts to restore Islamabad’s natural landscape.

CDA Chairman Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf said the land was cleared of encroachments in 2025 and subsequently divided into designated plantation plots.

He said indigenous tree species were planted across the area in February 2026, marking the next phase of the restoration initiative.

Reclaimed Land Being Restored as Native Forest

According to the CDA chairman, the once-encroached land is now gradually taking the shape of a native forest, helping revive the natural environment of the Margalla foothills.

Describing the initiative as a shared vision, Sohail Ashraf emphasised the importance of restoring natural landscapes and protecting Islamabad’s green spaces for the future.
