Free Matric Education for Tribal Areas, Balochistan and GB Students: AIOU
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood says no child should be deprived of education due to financial hardship or geographical barriers as admissions for Autumn 2026 remain open.

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced that it will continue to provide free Matric education to students from the former tribal districts, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan under its social welfare and educational outreach programme.
According to the university, the initiative aims to improve access to quality education for children living in remote and underserved regions and to help bring them into the national mainstream through equal educational opportunities.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood said no child should be deprived of education because of financial constraints or geographical barriers, adding that expanding educational access remains one of the university’s key priorities.
He said the university has been introducing special measures for several years to support students from areas where educational facilities are limited. Providing free Matric education to students from the tribal districts, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan is part of that broader effort, benefiting thousands of learners.
The university also announced that admissions for the Autumn 2026 semester are currently open for programmes ranging from Matric to PhD. The Vice Chancellor encouraged eligible students from the targeted regions to take advantage of the free education facility.
Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood reiterated AIOU’s commitment to promoting education, social equality and national development by expanding educational opportunities across Pakistan.
