Eastern Corridor Could Cut Islamabad-Lahore Distance by 100km

Islamabad: Travel between Islamabad and Lahore may become considerably faster and shorter with the completion of the proposed Eastern Corridor motorway network.According to information shared by transport and infrastructure authorities, traffic is already operational on the Sialkot–Kharian motorway section, while construction work on the Kharian–Rawalpindi motorway is progressing.

Officials have indicated that work on the remaining link is expected to begin this year.Once completed, the Eastern Corridor will connect Lahore to Islamabad through the M-11, M-12 and M-13 motorway network. The proposed route is expected to reduce the travel distance between the two cities from approximately 375 kilometres via the M-2 Motorway to around 273 kilometres. The new corridor is also expected to improve travel times, provide an alternative route for commuters and freight transport, and help reduce traffic congestion on both the M-2 Motorway and the historic GT Road corridor.
