Police and Residents Face Off During Sangjani Operation

Social-media footage shows a tense interaction between residents and police during an operation involving CDA and Islamabad’s district administration; the precise purpose and full circumstances of Wednesday’s action remain to be officially clarified.

ISLAMABAD: Tense scenes were reported in Islamabad’s Sangjani area on Wednesday during an operation involving the Capital Development Authority (CDA), district administration and Islamabad Police, according to footage and information circulating on social media.

Heated Exchange Reported at Site

A video shared by the social-media account Sahafi Online appears to show residents and uniformed police personnel in a heated physical interaction at the site. The accompanying post claimed that residents resisted the operation and that a sizeable police contingent was present to manage the situation.

Islamabad Tribune has not independently verified the complete sequence of events shown in the footage, the precise location within Sangjani, or the specific administrative action that prompted the confrontation. No detailed official statement explaining Wednesday’s reported incident was located from CDA or Islamabad Police at the time of publication.

CDA Steps Up Anti-Encroachment Operations

The development comes amid an intensified CDA campaign against encroachments, unauthorised construction and non-conforming land use across the federal capital. On September 30, CDA said its Enforcement Directorate and building-control formations were conducting operations in coordination with Islamabad’s district administration and other departments to remove encroachments and unauthorised structures and enforce approved land-use regulations.

Sangjani has separately remained the focus of development, land and infrastructure activity. Official CDA records show that the authority’s board previously approved initiation of the built-up-property acquisition process in Revenue Estate Sangjani’s Dhoke Kasar area for a proposed link road connecting GT Road (N-5) with the M-1 and Margalla Avenue. The board directed that acquisition proceedings follow applicable rules and due legal process. There is currently no verified information establishing that Wednesday’s reported operation was connected to that particular project.

Sangjani Corridor Under Development

CDA officials also reviewed development activity around Sangjani Interchange and Sector C-14 in September, directing departments to accelerate pending development work and address obstacles to project completion.

The broader Sangjani-GT Road corridor has previously seen enforcement action against structures identified by authorities as encroachments. In August 2025, CDA said more than 80 percent of illegal structures identified on government land between Tarnol and Sangjani Toll Plaza had been cleared during an enforcement campaign.

Wednesday’s footage, however, requires separate official clarification because the social-media material does not establish the legal status of the property involved, whether prior notices were issued, what administrative order was being implemented, or whether any individual sustained injuries or was detained.

Islamabad Tribune will update the report if CDA, Islamabad district administration or Islamabad Police issues an official account of the Sangjani operation.
