Islamabad Airport Customs Seizes 24kg Hashish From Passenger

Customs officials say an intelligence-based search of an inbound international passenger led to the recovery of 24 kilograms of hashish, estimated at around Rs310 million in the international market.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs has reported another major seizure at Islamabad International Airport, recovering 24 kilograms of hashish from an international passenger in what officials described as the second significant airport interception within about a week.

According to information provided by Customs officials, the passenger had arrived in Pakistan from abroad and was intercepted following intelligence received by the authorities. Customs personnel subsequently searched the passenger and allegedly recovered approximately 24 kilograms of hashish.

Officials estimated the international market value of the seized substance at around Rs310 million (Rs31 crore). The recovered material was taken into Customs custody, while further proceedings are expected under the applicable laws.

Second Major Airport Seizure

The latest interception comes shortly after another major Customs operation at Islamabad International Airport. Publicly available reports confirm that on September 26, Pakistan Customs intercepted an inbound passenger and reported recovering 35 kilograms of suspected hashish, valued by officials at more than Rs660 million. An FIR was registered and an investigation launched into the source and intended destination of that consignment.

This differs from the supplied reference stating that the previous operation took place on September 28 and involved Rs550 million worth of hashish. The publicly verifiable report I found records the earlier seizure on September 26 at 35kg and approximately Rs660 million, so Islamabad Tribune should use those figures unless Customs has provided a separate September 28 operation directly to the newsroom.

Customs Tightens Airport Checks

The two reported interceptions highlight increased Customs scrutiny of international passenger traffic at Islamabad International Airport. Pakistan Customs has said in previous official statements that intelligence-led enforcement, risk profiling and targeted examination are among the measures being used at international entry and exit points.
