3,000 Rangers Personnel to Remain Deployed in Islamabad
Chief Commissioner’s Office sought continuation of 3,000 Pakistan Rangers personnel with command structure from October 5 to October 15 following a request from Islamabad Police.

ISLAMABAD: The deployment of 3,000 Pakistan Rangers personnel in the federal capital has been extended from October 5 to October 15, 2026, as authorities continue enhanced security arrangements in Islamabad.
Documents reviewed by Islamabad Tribune show that the Office of the Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Capital Territory, wrote to the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control on October 1, seeking continuation of the deployment of 3,000 Rangers personnel along with their command structure to support Islamabad Capital Territory Police.
Police Seek Extension
The Chief Commissioner’s Office communication was issued after Islamabad Police formally requested an extension in the Rangers deployment. A letter from the Office of the Inspector General of Police Islamabad, also dated October 1, requested that the existing deployment be continued from October 5 through October 15.
The latest request follows an earlier security arrangement under which 3,000 Rangers personnel were required by Islamabad Police from September 20 to October 5. The earlier police communication cited the prevailing law-and-order situation and the need to strengthen existing security resources in the capital.
Rangers Deployment Continues
The federal government had previously authorised Rangers deployment in Islamabad and several Punjab districts until October 5. Publicly reported notification details said the deployment was authorised under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance, 1959 and the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 to assist civil authorities in maintaining law and order.
Reports published on October 3 also confirm that the Rangers deployment has been extended until October 15 as authorities maintain enhanced security arrangements.
The documents supplied to Islamabad Tribune specifically concern the request for 3,000 Rangers personnel for ICT Police, with the extended period beginning October 5 and ending October 15.
