False Rape Cases to Face Legal Action, Says Islamabad DIG
DIG Ali Waseem directs registration of cases against complainants and witnesses in seven rape-related matters under the Anti-Rape Act, warning of legal action over allegedly fabricated complaints and statements made for financial gain.

ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2026: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Ali Waseem has ordered legal action against individuals accused of filing false rape complaints and misusing the legal process for personal or financial benefit.
Cases Ordered in Seven Anti-Rape Act Matters
According to an Islamabad Police spokesperson, the DIG has directed the registration of cases against complainants and witnesses associated with seven cases registered under the Anti-Rape Act.
The directive targets alleged misuse of the law, particularly cases in which individuals are accused of lodging false complaints and subsequently providing statements in favour of the accused in exchange for substantial sums of money, leading to the dismissal of the original cases.
DIG Ali Waseem stated that individuals who deliberately make false allegations concerning a serious offence to secure personal advantages or financial benefits would face legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Anti-Rape Act.
He emphasized that exploiting legal protections intended for genuine victims would not be tolerated and that action would be taken against those found responsible for deliberately misusing the justice system.
Legal Action Under the Anti-Rape Act
Section 22(2) of Pakistan’s Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021, provides for penalties against individuals who knowingly supply false information concerning scheduled offences to public officials with the intention or knowledge that it could lead to improper official action or cause injury or annoyance to another person.
The provision carries a potential sentence of up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine, subject to the applicable legal requirements and judicial determination.
The DIG said the purpose of the latest directive was to discourage deliberate misuse of the law while ensuring that justice is administered fairly.
He maintained that genuine victims must receive appropriate legal protection and access to justice without their rights being undermined by individuals who knowingly manipulate legal proceedings.
Protection of Genuine Victims Remains Priority
Reaffirming Islamabad Police’s commitment to public protection, DIG Ali Waseem said ensuring justice for genuine victims and safeguarding the rights of women and other citizens remain among the department’s foremost priorities.
He stressed that the law must protect individuals seeking legitimate remedies while also providing accountability where deliberate misuse is established.
The police announcement concerns directions to initiate proceedings. The allegations involving the seven cases remain subject to the relevant legal process, and the directive does not itself constitute a judicial finding against the complainants or witnesses.
Islamabad Police maintains that the initiative is intended to strengthen accountability, discourage deliberate misuse of legal procedures and uphold justice for all citizens.
