Islamabad Announces Major Traffic Diversions for Foreign Delegations

Islamabad Police announce intermittent traffic diversions on major roads, including Srinagar Highway and Faisal Avenue, on October 8, advising commuters to use designated alternative routes and allow an additional 20 to 25 minutes for travel.

ISLAMABAD, October 8, 2026 Islamabad Police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory announcing temporary diversions on several major roads in the federal capital on Thursday due to the movement of foreign delegations.

According to a statement issued by the Islamabad Police spokesperson, traffic diversions will be implemented at different times on Srinagar Highway, Faisal Avenue and connecting roads, with motorists advised to use designated alternative routes to avoid delays.

The advisory warns that traffic pressure may increase across key intersections and major routes during the movement of visiting delegations.

Srinagar Highway Diversions

Police said traffic diversions would be imposed at various locations along the corridor between the Red Zone and Koral.

Motorists using Srinagar Highway have been advised to consider Suhrawardy Road, the G-8 Service Road and Ninth Avenue as alternative routes during the temporary restrictions.

Drivers are encouraged to follow traffic personnel’s instructions, as diversions may be introduced at different locations and times.

Alternative Routes Between Zero Point and Koral

For commuters travelling from Zero Point towards Koral, Islamabad Police have recommended Ninth Avenue as an alternative route.

Meanwhile, residents travelling from Koral towards Islamabad have been advised to consider Old Airport Road, Rawal Road, Rawalpindi-Murree Road, I.J. Principal Road and Faqir Aipee Road.

These alternatives are intended to help motorists avoid affected sections of the capital’s major road network.

Expressway, Murree Road and Club Road

The traffic advisory also identifies the Koral section of Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road and Club Road as routes where temporary restrictions may be introduced.

In the event of closures on these roads, commuters have been advised to use Lehtrar Road and Park Road.

Police have stressed the importance of following traffic instructions and using available alternative routes when diversions are activated.

Routes for Travellers Leaving Islamabad

Motorists planning to travel out of Islamabad have been advised to consider Jinnah Avenue and Margalla Road.

These roads have been identified as alternatives during the temporary traffic arrangements.

Special Instructions for Bhara Kahu Commuters

Residents travelling from Bhara Kahu towards central Islamabad have been advised to use Bani Gala and Park Road.

The advisory is particularly relevant to commuters who regularly use the eastern approaches to Islamabad for work, education and other daily activities.

Citizens Advised to Allow Extra Travel Time

Islamabad Police have warned that traffic volume is likely to increase on major roads as vehicles are redirected from affected routes.

Citizens have therefore been advised to leave 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual, particularly when travelling to workplaces, educational institutions, medical appointments or other time-sensitive destinations.

The spokesperson did not specify exact hours for the diversions or identify the visiting delegations in the advisory.

As the restrictions are expected to be implemented at different times, commuters should check the latest traffic situation before leaving home and follow directions issued by traffic officials.

For traffic-related information and assistance, citizens can contact the Islamabad Traffic Police helpline at 1915 or listen to ITP FM 92.4 for updates.

Islamabad Police have urged residents to cooperate with traffic personnel and use the recommended alternative routes to minimise inconvenience during the movement of foreign delegations.
