Jamaat-e-Islami Holds Symbolic Sit-In on Srinagar Highway Against Fuel Prices, Inflation
Party demands petrol and diesel price be fixed at Rs225 per litre; five-minute blockade ends peacefully as part of nationwide protest.
ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged a symbolic sit-in on Srinagar Highway in Islamabad on Friday as part of a nationwide protest campaign against rising fuel prices, high petroleum levies and inflation.
Demand for Lower Fuel Prices
Led by JI central leader Liaqat Baloch, protesters demanded that the government fix the price of petrol and diesel at Rs225 per litre, arguing that stable fuel prices would help ease the financial burden on the public.
The protest followed the party’s call for coordinated demonstrations across the country. Participants briefly blocked Srinagar Highway for approximately five minutes to register their demands before peacefully dispersing, allowing traffic to resume without disruption.
Nationwide Demonstrations
JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman criticised the government’s petroleum levy, describing it as an unfair burden on the public and urging authorities to provide relief amid rising living costs.
According to the party, similar demonstrations were held at more than 510 locations across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar, to press the government for economic relief measures and lower fuel prices.
The protest concluded peacefully, with party leaders reiterating their demand for immediate measures to reduce fuel prices and curb inflation.
