57 Litres in 50-Litre Tank? Islamabad Citizen Demands Probe
A citizen has called for an official inspection of a PSO-branded filling station in Islamabad after alleging that 57 litres of petrol were dispensed into a vehicle with a stated 50-litre fuel-tank capacity, despite fuel reportedly already being present in the tank.
ISLAMABAD: A citizen has demanded an investigation into an alleged fuel-measurement discrepancy at a PSO-branded filling station in Islamabad, claiming that 57 litres of petrol were dispensed into a vehicle with a stated fuel-tank capacity of 50 litres.
Citizen Raises Questions Over Fuel Dispensing
According to the complaint shared on social media, the vehicle reportedly already contained approximately 15 litres of petrol before it was taken for refuelling. The complainant questioned how the dispenser could record 57 litres under those circumstances and urged the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
The citizen also called upon the Islamabad Capital Territory administration and other concerned authorities to inspect the filling station and verify whether its fuel-dispensing equipment was properly calibrated.
The allegation has raised concerns over fuel measurement and consumer protection at filling stations in the federal capital. However, the figures cited by the complainant have not yet been independently verified by Islamabad Tribune through an official inspection or certified measurement test.
Official Verification Required
A discrepancy between a vehicle’s stated tank capacity and the quantity shown on a fuel dispenser does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing.
Vehicle manufacturers’ stated capacities may be nominal, while factors such as reserve space, filler-neck capacity and the actual quantity of fuel remaining in the tank can affect comparisons. A calibrated inspection of the dispensing unit would be required to establish whether any measurement irregularity occurred.
Islamabad authorities have previously carried out inspections of petrol pumps over complaints concerning short measurement and dispensing equipment, with enforcement action taken where violations were established.
