Heavy Rain Threatens Twin Cities, PMD Warns of Urban Flooding
Rain and strong winds are forecast for Islamabad and several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while authorities warn of urban flooding, swollen streams and landslides in vulnerable areas.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy conditions with rain and strong winds in Islamabad, warning that heavier spells could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of the federal capital and Rawalpindi.
Heavy Rain May Trigger Urban Flooding
The Flood Forecasting Division of PMD has separately warned that heavy rainfall during August 23 could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore. It has also flagged the possibility of increased flows and flooding in rain-fed streams and nullahs of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Rain Forecast Across Punjab and KP
Rain is also expected across several parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore, while many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could experience rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Cloudy conditions and rainfall are forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with heavier rainfall possible in Kashmir. Vulnerable mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir also face the risk of landslides during the wet spell.
NDMA Issues Weather Alerts
The broader threat is consistent with current official alerts. NDMA’s alerts page lists severe rainfall warnings for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as an urban-flooding alert for Punjab and KP.
PMD Forecasts Further Rainfall
PMD’s latest available flood bulletin also forecasts scattered to widespread rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls under the prevailing weather system.
Residents, particularly those living near low-lying areas and natural waterways, should remain attentive to official weather and emergency advisories as conditions develop. Other parts of the country are expected to remain generally hot and humid.
