Former Islamabad SP Sentenced to Death in Hamza Murder Case

ISLAMABAD: A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad on Tuesday sentenced former Islamabad Police SP Arif Hussain Shah to death in the murder case of Senate employee Hamza Khan.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka announced the verdict after concluding final arguments in the high-profile case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the main convict.
According to the verdict, co-accused Sabir Shah and Saqlain were handed life imprisonment along with fines of Rs2 million each.
The prosecution presented 17 witnesses during the trial, while police had nominated three accused in the case. Court proceedings continued through more than 40 hearings before the final judgment was reserved earlier in the day.
Investigators told the court that Hamza Khan was allegedly abducted and later murdered by Arif Hussain Shah. During the investigation, the victim’s body was recovered from the convict’s ancestral home in Mansehra, where it had reportedly been buried in a garden area.
The murder case was registered at Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad.
