Rawal Dam Spillways to Open tomorrow at 6 After Heavy Rains

Following heavy rainfall in the federal capital, the district administration has ordered the opening of Rawal Dam's spillways at 6:00 AM on Saturday and urged residents to avoid streams, nullahs and areas surrounding the dam.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has announced that the spillways of Rawal Dam will be opened at 6:00 AM on Saturday after heavy rainfall caused the reservoir’s water level to rise to 1,748.30 feet.

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the decision was taken to safely regulate the increasing water level and minimise the risk of overflow following persistent rainfall in the federal capital.

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has directed all relevant departments, including emergency and rescue agencies, to remain on high alert and ensure a swift response to any emergency arising from the controlled release of water.

Public Advisory

The district administration has also issued a public advisory, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary movement near Rawal Dam, streams, nullahs and flood channels, particularly during and after the release of water.

Residents living near waterways have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official instructions and avoid recreational activities around the dam until the situation returns to normal.

A spokesperson said the administration is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with all concerned departments to safeguard public safety.
