Dry Tube Wells, Costly Tankers: H-13 Residents Seek Immediate Relief

ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad’s Sector H-13 have raised concerns over what they describe as a worsening water shortage, with a widely shared social media post claiming that dried-up tube wells, falling groundwater levels, and soaring water tanker prices have left many households struggling to secure basic water supplies.
The post, written by local resident Shafiq Hazarvi, describes the situation as a “humanitarian and administrative crisis,” alleging that privately installed tube wells across the sector have largely stopped producing water due to a significant decline in the groundwater table. According to the post, many families are now dependent on privately operated water tankers, whose prices have reportedly increased beyond the reach of ordinary residents.
The citizen also criticized what he termed the “silence” of elected representatives and relevant authorities, alleging that H-13 has long lacked a planned public water supply system and that residents have effectively been left at the mercy of private tanker operators.
The post further argues that the crisis is not solely the responsibility of the authorities, urging residents to acknowledge past water wastage and calling for greater public awareness regarding water conservation. It recommends adopting rainwater harvesting systems and more responsible water usage to help restore groundwater reserves over the long term.
Measures Proposed by Residents
Among the measures proposed in the post are:
- Government regulation of water tanker prices.
- Extension of a permanent public water supply network to H-13.
- Mandatory rainwater harvesting systems for residential and commercial buildings.
- Installation of community tube wells and filtration facilities to provide affordable drinking water.
Authorities Yet to Respond
