PAF Group Captain Killed in Islamabad Shooting While Allegedly Trying to Stop Girl’s Abduction
Police launch investigation; suspects remain at large.

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain was shot dead in a firing incident near Shaheen Chowk, opposite Air University and Bahria University, within the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station on Saturday, according to preliminary police information.
The deceased officer has been identified as Group Captain Asim Tariq. Initial reports indicate that he allegedly intervened after noticing a man reportedly attempting to force a young woman into a vehicle. During the intervention, an armed suspect allegedly opened fire, fatally injuring the PAF officer.
Police said Group Captain Asim Tariq succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His body was later shifted to PAF Hospital Unit-II for medico-legal formalities.
Following the incident, officers from Margalla Police Station, including the Additional SHO and duty staff, reached the scene, secured evidence, and launched an investigation.
According to police, a woman identified as Nimra, who was present at the scene, has been taken into protective custody for questioning as investigators work to determine the sequence of events. The alleged shooter and accompanying suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.
Islamabad Police has launched a search operation to trace and arrest those involved. Investigators are examining eyewitness accounts, CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and other available material to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have not yet issued an official statement confirming the motive behind the shooting or the alleged attempted abduction. The investigation remains ongoing.
