Over 1,000 Motorcycles Stolen in Islamabad in Six Months, Recovery Rate Remains Low

Crime diary data shows motorcycles worth Rs167 million stolen between January and June 2026

ISLAMABAD: Motorcycle theft continues to pose a major security concern in the federal capital, with official crime diary data showing that 1,078 motorcycles were stolen across Islamabad during the first six months of 2026, causing an estimated financial loss of Rs167 million to citizens.

According to the crime statistics reviewed by Islamabad Tribune, the stolen motorcycles are collectively valued at approximately Rs16.7 crore (Rs167 million). However, the recovery rate remains low, with available records indicating that only around 50 to 55 motorcycles have been recovered during the same period.

The figures translate into an average of nearly six motorcycles stolen every day, highlighting the scale of the problem despite law enforcement efforts to curb street crime.

The data has raised concerns among residents over the safety of their vehicles and the effectiveness of preventive measures against motorcycle theft, which remains one of the most common property crimes reported in the capital.

Citizens have urged authorities to strengthen surveillance in theft-prone areas, expand the use of CCTV monitoring, enhance police patrolling, and intensify operations against organized vehicle theft networks.

Security experts also advise motorcycle owners to use additional anti-theft devices such as heavy-duty locks, GPS trackers, and secure parking facilities to reduce the risk of theft.

While Islamabad Police regularly conduct operations against criminal gangs and report arrests in vehicle theft cases, the latest crime diary figures indicate that the number of recoveries remains significantly lower than the number of reported thefts.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations and enforcement operations aimed at dismantling motorcycle theft networks operating in the federal capital.
