Islamabad Police Removes 29 Contract-Based Retired Officers

Four SPs, three DSPs and three inspectors among contract personnel relieved as IGP Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry issues notification ending further extensions.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police has relieved 29 retired officers and other personnel who had been serving the federal capital police on contractual appointments following their retirement, according to information available with Islamabad Tribune.

The officials had been engaged on contract in different operational, administrative, technical and support positions. The group included four Superintendents of Police (SPs), three Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and three inspectors, along with personnel serving in several specialised roles.

Officials Relieved of Assignments

Those relieved also include officials working as radiology assistant, legal assistant, director IT and software engineer, as well as a chief nursing superintendent, assistant sub-inspector and constable, according to the available details.

The services of the contractual personnel had reportedly been obtained from 2023, with their contractual tenure stated to have run until June 30. Further continuation or extension of their contracts has now been discontinued, and the officials have been relieved of their respective assignments.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Capt (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry has issued a notification regarding the decision, according to information shared with Islamabad Tribune.

Performance Claims Not Independently Verified

Sources further claimed that some of the retired personnel re-engaged after retirement had not produced the expected results during their contractual tenures. Islamabad Tribune could not independently verify this assessment, and no detailed individual performance evaluations were found publicly available at the time of publication.

The development comes shortly after Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry assumed command of Islamabad Police. The federal government appointed him as IGP Islamabad in September 2026, replacing Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

Since taking charge, the new police chief has publicly emphasised merit, transparency, adherence to rules and improved operational performance. At a senior officers’ meeting on September 29, he reviewed security, operational preparedness, departmental performance and the effective utilisation of police resources.

Separately, the IGP has also said that both serving and retired police personnel can approach him over legitimate departmental matters, while directing that such cases be dealt with transparently and according to prescribed rules.
