ISLAMABAD: Fourteen undertrial prisoners escaped from police custody during their transfer from Islamabad to Adiala Jail after allegedly attacking escort personnel on Chakian–Kahuta Road, according to a police First Information Report (FIR).

According to the FIR, a total of 36 undertrial prisoners were being transported to Adiala Jail when several detainees allegedly started fighting inside the prison van on Chakian–Kahuta Road. When police personnel opened the vehicle’s rear door to stop the altercation, the undertrials allegedly sprayed pepper powder into the officers’ eyes and took advantage of the situation to flee.

Police said 14 undertrial prisoners escaped from custody during the incident.

Authorities have since rearrested Saim Ishtiaq, Atif, Zakaria Akhlaq, and Waleed Arif, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining escapees.

According to the FIR, the fugitives include Asim Abdul Wahab, Ehtesham, Adil Abbas, Zaigham Hussain, Danish, Asad Rehman, Abdul Rehman, Waheed alias Wahdi, and Shameer, among others.

The FIR states that the undertrial prisoners acted with common intention and criminal conspiracy, resisted the police escort, and escaped from lawful custody during the transfer.

Islamabad Police said search operations are continuing to arrest the remaining fugitives, while further investigation into the incident is underway to determine whether any additional individuals were involved or whether any security lapses contributed to the escape.
